Helping tired moms build cozy online businesses without showing up on social media 24/7

Why Keywords Matter for Pinterest Growth

I thought I was doing Pinterest right.

I was posting consistently.
Trying to stay on top of it.
Making pins that I thought looked good.

And still… nothing was really happening.

Not in the way I expected.

It felt slow.
Confusing.
Kind of pointless if I’m being honest.

And I kept thinking maybe I just needed to keep going.
Maybe I just needed more time.

But that wasn’t the problem.

The problem was I didn’t understand keywords.

I Thought Keywords Were Optional (They’re Not)

I used to think keywords were just something extra.

Like something you add if you really know what you’re doing.
Not something that actually makes or breaks your growth.

But on Pinterest…

Keywords are everything.

Because Pinterest isn’t social media.

It’s a search engine.

Which means if Pinterest doesn’t understand your content, it doesn’t show your content.

And that’s exactly what was happening to me.

Why Nothing Was Working (Even Though I Was Trying)

I was posting.
I was showing up.
I was doing “all the things.”

But behind the scenes?

Pinterest had no idea what my pins were about.

So it couldn’t push them out to the right people.

And instead of realizing that…
I thought I needed to post more.

Which just made everything feel heavier and more frustrating.

The Shift That Actually Made a Difference

The moment I started paying attention to keywords, things started to change.

Not overnight.

But enough that I noticed.

My pins started getting:

more impressions
more saves
actual clicks

And it finally felt like… okay, this is starting to make sense.

Because now Pinterest could actually categorize my content and show it to people who were already searching for it.

That’s literally how the platform works.

It matches your content to what people are looking for based on relevance.

What Keywords Actually Do (In Real Life Terms)

The easiest way to think about it is this:

Keywords tell Pinterest who your content is for.

Without them… your content just sits there.

With them… your content gets placed in front of the right people.

And that’s the difference between:

posting and hoping
vs
posting and growing

This Is Where Most Beginners Get Stuck

Most people don’t realize this part.

They think:

“I just need better pins”
“I just need to be more consistent”
“I just need more time”

But Pinterest doesn’t reward guessing.

It rewards clarity.

And if your content isn’t clear to the platform, it won’t perform the way you want it to.

What I Would Do Differently (If I Started Over)

If I could go back, I wouldn’t focus on posting more.

I would focus on understanding keywords first.

Because it would have saved me:

so much time
so much confusion
so much second guessing

And I would have started seeing results a lot sooner.

If Pinterest Feels Slow or Pointless Right Now

I just want to say this because I know how it feels…

You’re probably not doing everything wrong.

You’re probably just missing this one piece.

And once it clicks, everything starts to feel a lot more simple.

Not easy… but simple.

Why I Made My Pinterest Starter Kit

This is exactly why I created my Pinterest starter kit.

Because I didn’t want other moms sitting there feeling like they had to figure all of this out on their own.

Guessing what works.
Trying random strategies.
Wondering if it’s even worth it.

Inside, I walk through:

how Pinterest actually works
how to use keywords in a way that makes sense
what actually matters (and what doesn’t)
how to grow without showing your face

It’s simple, beginner-friendly, and built for real life.

If you’ve been feeling stuck or like nothing is working yet, this is probably the piece you’re missing.

Final Thought

You don’t need to do more.

You don’t need to overwhelm yourself trying to figure everything out.

You just need to understand how Pinterest actually works.

And for me… that started with keywords 🤍
